Volunteer litter-pickers needed
Morville Parish Council [MPC] is about to commence the second year of its Restore Shropshire Verges Project [RSVP] along the A458 from Morville to Muckley Cross.
This “cut and collect” regime will encourage the spontaneous proliferation of wildflowers and the insects feeding on them, create a visually attractive verge and, in the longer term and if extended along the A458, lead to a considerable financial saving.
Weather permitting, the first “cut & collect” of 2026 will be carried out the week commencing 23rd March, postponed if necessary to the following week.
This needs to be preceded by volunteer litter picking during the week commencing 16th March.
Litter picking is planned for the mornings of Friday 20th and Saturday 21st March.
Rowley Racing have again agreed to volunteers assembling on their yard – Poplar Cottage Farm; Morville, Bridgnorth WV16 4RS – where there is ample parking. There Cllr Pam Yuille will be issuing high-viz, litter-pickers and bags but volunteers need to bring their own gloves.
Further cuts will be needed after the wildflowers have seeded, in late July or early August, and in the late autumn if the vegetation is over 10 cm high and ground conditions permit.
In subsequent years, as soil fertility decreases, only one or two cuts should be necessary.
The Rowleys have also kindly agreed for the bags of litter to be left on their yard for collection by Shropshire Council and for the grass cuttings to be dumped on their muck pile.
