Morville Parish Council has 12 councillor seats, representing the communities of Morville, Acton Round, Aston Eyre, Monkhopton and Upton Cressett.

Parish councillors are local people who care about their community and want to help make a positive difference. They are elected or co-opted onto the Council and serve on a voluntary, unpaid basis.

Councillors listen to residents, raise matters affecting the parish and help the Council make decisions about local priorities. Their work includes considering planning applications, supporting community projects, raising highways and environmental concerns, managing local resources and representing the parish to Shropshire Council and other organisations.

Individual councillors are always happy to hear from residents. However, decisions of the Parish Council are made collectively at properly convened public meetings.

Two councillor vacancies

Morville Parish Council currently has two vacancies and welcomes expressions of interest from people who would like to serve their community through co-option.

You do not need previous council experience or specialist qualifications. What matters most is an interest in the parish, a willingness to listen to different points of view, and a commitment to working constructively for the benefit of the community. Guidance and support are available to help new councillors understand the role.

Becoming a parish councillor offers an opportunity to represent the views and interests of local residents, help shape decisions affecting the parish, support community projects and local organisations, work with other councillors and public bodies to address local concerns, and develop useful knowledge and experience of local government.

Councillors are expected to attend council meetings, consider the information provided before decisions are made, and comply with the Council’s Code of Conduct. The Council normally meets once a month, although additional meetings may occasionally be required.

Residents may contact any councillor about a matter affecting the parish. You can also contact the Clerk, who can direct your enquiry to the appropriate councillor or arrange for a matter to be considered at a future council meeting.

Please remember that councillors cannot make decisions individually or promise that a particular course of action will be taken. Formal decisions must be made collectively by the Council at a properly convened meeting.
